Chunguisa located in the middle part of
a hill in 1-gu Siryang-ni, Deoksan-myeon.
Yesan-gun is the shrine where the achievements
and loyalty of Yun Bong-gil, Maeheon by his
pen name, are remembered and respected and
the soul of the deceased is consoled.
Yun Bong-gil, born in May 1908, organized
the Woljin Association with the young men
of his hometwon of Siryang-ni, Deoksan-myeong
during the Japanese Colonial Rule and engaged
in a rural enlightening movement by writing
books for farmers before he set out for the
independence movement and exiled himself to
China.
In 1932, under the order of Kim Gu, Baekbeom
by his pen name, Yun served the Korean Patriots
Corps and assassinated the Imperial Japanese
Army General Sirakawa, Gawabada, the President
of the Japanese Residents Association in Shanghai,
and many other influential Japanese at a ceremony
held in honor of the birthday of Japanese
King Hirohito in Hongkou Park in Shanghai
on April 29. His act made the spirit of independence
of Korean people well known all over the world.
In honor of his actions, Chunguisa Shrine
was constructed in 1963 and in 1972,the house
of his birth, his old house, and the premises
of Chunguisa Shrine were designated as Historical
Site No. 229. In 1978, the Shrine and the
gate to the premises were all extended and
beautification work was dedicated. |
